Bob Brontsema is UCSB's Assistant Athletics Director, Events, Facilities and Operations.  In his positiion, he oversees the management at Gaucho sporting events, handles all event facility needs as well as maintenance of the ICA Office Building.

Brontsema is formerly the Gauchos head baseball coach.  In his tenure, he posted morevictories than any coach in school history.  A two-time Big West Conference Coach of the Year, he guided the program to the 1996 and 2001 NCAA Tournaments.

In addition to guiding the program to two postseasons, Brontsema has seen several of his former players reach the Major League level.  Seven-time All-Star, American League batting champion, All-Star Game MVP and MLB Man of the Year Michael Young played for Brontsema.  Others who have hit the big-time include Skip Schumaker, Ryan Spilborghs, Chris Valaika and Virgil Vasquez.

The San Fernando Valley-native was a longtime assistant coach at UCSB prior to becoming head coach.  As an assistant, he helped lead the Gauchos to NCAA Tournaments in 1986, 1987 and 1990.  As a player for the Gauchos, Brontsema captained the 1983 team that came within a win of advancing to the College World Series. When he completed his playing career, he held the school record for stolen bases in a season with 45, a figure that still ranks him among the top-5.

Brontsema and his wife Kathleen have one daughter (Kathryn) and one son (John).  They reside in Santa Barbara.
