Steven Smith, Ph.D

Dr. Steven Smith serves as the Athletics Department’s Sports Psychologist. Dr. Smith is an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Training in UCSB’s Department of Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology. He works with UCSB’s student-athletes individually and in a team setting, focusing on motivation and goal-setting, peak performance and focus during competitions.
Smith received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from
the University of Arkansas. He completed an internship and
post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and
Massachusetts General Hospital before serving as Director of
Consultation Neuropsychology at MGH. He joined the faculty at UCSB
in 2004.
Smith will continue to conduct research within the Athletics
Department, with the assistance of doctoral students in Counseling,
Clinical and School Psychology.
