Trevor Whyte Named Big West Player of the Week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Trevor Whyte had a tremendous final weekend as a Gaucho, hitting three home runs and driving in eight runs to earn Big West Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

Whyte, a senior, started his weekend off with a two-run home run on Friday to break open a 1-1 game and then added a two-run single and a sacrifice fly as he knocked in a career-high five RBI during UCSB's 11-3 victory over Pacific.

On Saturday, Whyte hit a solo home run to get the Gauchos on the board as part of his two-homer day as he drove in three runs during Santa Barbara's 5-0 win over the Tigers.

Whyte, who hails from Mission Viejo, slugged 1.273 in UCSB's four games this past week while hitting .455 and he was on base at a .500 clip. The first baseman had the game-winning RBI in both of Friday and Saturday's wins. It is Whyte's first Big West Player of the Week award.
