UCSB Adds Zach Etheredge as Volunteer Assistant Coach

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Zach Etheredge, who played in the Chicago White Sox system and has worked as an assistant coach for the Cape Cod League's Cotuit Kettleers, has joined the UC Santa Barbara baseball team staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

Etheredge was a two-time team All-Southland Conference pick as a catcher at the University of Texas San Antonio and was twice named the team's team captain. In his junior and senior years Etheredge helped lead UTSA to Southland Conference titles. After graduating in 2008 he signed a contract with the White Sox organization.

"He's been a team leader everywhere he's been and Zach is really well thought of and respected," UCSB head coach Andrew Checketts said. "He will really help us from a catching standpoint. He's an experienced catcher who played in pro ball. He is a terrific motivator and leader."

Etheredge has served as a head coach in the Texas Fury summer league organization and has been an instructor at UTSA's summer camps. As a junior at UTSA he hit .313 with a .359 on-base percentage, nine home runs and 45 RBI. He also played in the Cape Cod League with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. Etheredge left UTSA ranked among the top 10 on the school's career charts in at-bats (third), doubles (fifth), games started (sixth), RBIs (sixth) and home runs (ninth).

"I'm very excited to have this opportunity to go to the West Coast and learn everything I can and better myself as a coach," Etheredge said. "I feel blessed to have this opportunity and learn from this coaching staff."
