• Austin Powers
Freshman right-hander Austin Pettibone had quite the series at San Jose State last weekend. Called upon to close out Friday's game, Pettibone entered with the bases loaded and one out. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native struck out both batters he faced for his first career save. He then pitched 6.0 solid innings on Sunday, allowing just five hits and two earned runs in his first career victory.

• Raising the Bar
Shortstop Brandon Trinkwon's on-base percentage ballooned after his impressive weekend in San Jose. The sophomore reached base in 11 of 14 plate appearances and had a pair of doubles. Trinkwon is now hitting .364 on the season and his on-base percentage of .533 is tied for fourth amongst Big West players.

• Triple Threat
The Gauchos' typical 1-2-3 batters – Brett Vertigan, Lance Roenicke and Brandon Trinkwon – are the team's top three hitters based on average (.387, .385, .364 respectively) and all three lead UCSB in RBI as each has driven in six runs apiece. The trio also has three of the Gauchos' top five on-base percentages.

• Gauchos Again
UCSB has a pair of pitchers on its staff who were drafted but decided to wear the blue and gold again. Right-hander Matt Vedo was selected in last June's amateur draft in the 49th round by the Los Angeles Angels while left-hander Kevin Gelinas has been drafted twice in the past three seasons but each time returned to UCSB.

• Pitching In
UCSB's team ERA in 2011 was 3.65, which served as the Gauchos' lowest since posting a 3.24 clip all the way back in 1984. In fact, no Gaucho team between those two seasons has had an ERA lower than 4.00.

• At the Polls
In the annual Big West preseason poll, UCSB was tabbed to finish sixth in the conference while Cal State Fullerton was picked to win the league crown.

• UCSB Quick Fact
UCSB's three-game sweep of San Jose State was the program's first sweep of a weekend series of at least three games since a four-game sweep over Northern Illinois March 12-14, 2010.

• By the Numbers
6 – Number of UCSB players who have played in at least six games, that have an average of at least .300.
