SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara baseball head coach Andrew Checketts announced that Casey Harms, the program's director of baseball operations (DBO) for the past five seasons, has been promoted to assistant coach.

"Casey has been a loyal, diligent, and hardworking member of our staff since the day he arrived on campus," said Checketts. "He's smart, has a high baseball IQ, and has established himself as someone reliable and trusted in the program. He's anxious to get on the road and continue making the program better."

In Harms' tenure with the program, UCSB has accrued a 176-111-3 (.613) record, made three NCAA Regional appearances, and reached the first College World Series in school history. As a full-time assistant, Harms will work with the team's outfielders, assist with the offense, and be a key part of recruiting efforts.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded as a Gaucho and I'm excited to help the program continue to grow," said Harms. "Coach Checketts has done a remarkable job taking this program to new heights and I appreciate his confidence in me in this new role. I look forward to continuing work with our coaching staff to recruit and develop high-quality student-athletes. My wife, Samantha, and I are happy to be able to continue calling Santa Barbara our home."

During his time as DBO, he played an integral role in the program's everyday operations. His responsibilities included the coordination of team travel, equipment and apparel, on-campus recruiting, and assisting with the Gaucho Baseball Academy. He also has coaching experience with the Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League, a summer collegiate league based in the Pacific Northwest.

Before coming to UCSB, Harms was an outfielder and three-year captain at Occidental College from 2009-12. He was a part of a program turnaround at Oxy, capped off by his senior year when the Tigers recorded their best record in over 30 years.

Harms received a master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2016.
