Boone, McGreevy Named Freshmen All-Americans by Perfect Game

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After already earning Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American honors last week, both Rodney Boone and Michael McGreevy added to their accolades with a Perfect Game All-American selection announced on Thursday morning.

Left-handed starter Boone was named to the First Team while right-handed reliever McGreevy landed on the Second Team.

Boone, the Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year and Second Team All-Big West honoree, enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with the Gauchos. The Orange, Calif. native went 8-0 in 14 starts with a 2.78 ERA as he established himself as the Sunday starter early on in the season. Boone recorded 80 strikeouts in 81.0 innings pitched, while holding hitters to a .204 batting average against, and had no shortage of quality performances throughout. In the finale of UCSB's series against Missouri State, the lefty struck out 10 in six innings of three-hit ball allowing just one run. On Apr. 7, he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against Stephen F. Austin, eventually settling for a one-hit outing. Two weeks later, Boone allowed just three hits in 7.2 innings in a win against UC Davis. Perhaps most memorable, Boone's career-high 12 strikeouts in 8.1 innings helped the Gauchos clinch the Big West title for the first time in 33 years in the regular season finale over rival Cal Poly.

Joining Boone on the Freshmen All-American team is McGreeevy, who has also earned All-Big West First Team honors in addition to his Collegiate Baseball All-American status. The San Clemente High School product became one of the most reliable arms in the bullpen for UCSB, making a team-high 29 appearances while leading the Gauchos with a 1.94 ERA. Batters hit just .234 against him and he recorded 53 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched, picking up six saves along the way with a 5-1 record . In what was his second collegiate game, he struck out four in three scoreless innings at UNLV on Feb. 19. Against Missouri State, he struck out a season-high six batters in 3.1 scoreless innings. Later in the season, he came in for a season-high 5.1 innings to pick up a win for the Gauchos over Cal State Fullerton on Mar. 31.
