Box Score

The Gauchos have taken the first two games of a three game series against Cal State Northridge to improve their record to 6-4. CSUN has dropped below .500, and are now 4-5 after the two losses at the hands of the Gauchos.

On Friday, a solid offense led the way for the Gauchos, as they had 16 hits and scored 12 runs. Andy Campanella led the hit parade for the Gauchos, as he went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored.

Rylie Ogle started the game for the Gauchos and went 6.2 strong innings and earned the win, to go 2-0 on the season. In the fourth inning, Ogle took a line-drive off the shin, but fought through the pain to go two more innings, and ended up striking out six while only allowing one runner to reach on a walk. Russell Wirth pitched the final out in the seventh, and that led to Peter Dyball, who put the nail in the coffin and closed the game for the Gauchos.

Saturday, the Gauchos showed no let up in the hitting category. They had nine hits and scored six runs, while only allowing 2 runs for CSUN.

Gabe Neboyia was the story in this game. He started for the Gauchos and there was no stopping him. He went nine strong innings and fanned 13 Northridge batters, while only allowing one walk. Coach Brontsema said, "Neboyia really led the way for us today. He set the tone and kept us in on offense where we could get the timely hits and put runs on the board. The game started and stopped with the pitching of Gabe today."

Jimmy Walker earned his first start behind the plate for the Gauchos and came up with a big double to score a run. Unfortunately he got too greedy and was thrown out at third, trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Campanella showed no signs that his bat had cooled off, as he went 2-for-4 on the day, as did right fielder Ryan Spilborghs, who also scored three runs for the Gauchos.

Jared Schumaker dislocated his shoulder while diving into second base while hustling for a double. He was safe on the play, but had to be taken out of the game, and taken to the emergency room for mediacl treatment. More will come on his status for later games, once there is a better understanding of the degree of dislocation.

The Gauchos will travel back down to Northridge to face CSUN, as they look for the sweep, this Sunday, February 20. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
