SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - On Monday, the No. 30 UC Santa Barbara baseball team did something that no Gaucho squad has done since 1992 - it posted consecutive shutouts.

A day after blanking Cal State Bakersfield 10-0, Jesse Meaux and Zach Samuels held Westmont scoreless in a 6-0 victory at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium, the Gauchos' 2009 home opener.

The last UCSB team to accomplish that feat occurred in 1992 when the Gauchos blanked Westmont and Cal State Los Angeles in three straight games from Jan. 30-Feb. 2.

Brian Gump's three-run home run to cap a four-run second inning highlighted his 3-for-4 day. Gump also scored twice and it was his second homer of the season.

Meaux, making just his second career start, struck out six batters and allowed just one hit in his three innings of work. Samuels finished the game, allowing just two hits in six innings while striking out nine Warriors.

UCSB is now 2-1 this season.

Third baseman Ryan Cavan was the only other player to record a multi-hit game, as the junior went 2-for-4 - both triples - with a run and an RBI. Mark Haddow added a triple and scored while John DeAlba also had a double.

The Gauchos will take on No. 12 UCLA on Tuesday - the team's fourth game in the season's first three days - at 2 p.m. at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. This is UCSB's Pink Zone event where the Gaucho players will wear pink hats and wristbands to raise awareness for breast cancer. Pink hats, like the ones the players will wear, will be available for $25 at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

Also, for the first time ever, UCSB is pleased to announce that baseball season tickets are on sale now. These are the best seats in the house, with the entire Field Level for season ticket holders only and the Reserved Level behind home plate for season ticket holders. With every season ticket purchased, fans will receive a free UCSB baseball hat.

Tickets are available by calling (805) 893-UCSB, by coming to the Ticket Office located inside the Intercollegiate Athletics building on campus or by clicking here.
