Gauchos Pound Out 16 Hits, Beat New Mexico 11-10 In Game One of Saturday's Doubleheader

Sophomore first baseman Bill Rowe went 5-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI as the UC Santa Barbara baseball team survived a ninth-inning rally and defeated the University of New Mexico 11-10 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Gauchos (9-6) scored in every inning but the fourth and sixth as sophomore right-hander Steve Morlock (2-3) pitched 5.1 innings for his second win of the year.
Senior catcher Taylor Vogt finished 3-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI and junior second baseman and reigning Co-Big West Player of the Week Chris Malec finished 2-for-5. Freshman phenom Chris Valaika continue his torrid heating spree with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two runs and two RBI.
Right-hander Loren Fraser, lefty Ivan Ramirez and right-hander Nate Holguin combined to hold the Lobos (1-8-1) to one run from the middle of the sixth until the ninth. The trio combined to toss 2.2 innings, allowing the one run on four hits. New Mexico got to Gaucho closer Aaron Jones in the ninth, touching him for three runs before Jones finally retired the side to end the game.
