FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State scored early and often on the Gauchos, scoring all of their runs in the first five innings, cruising to a 10-3 win, in day three action at the Pepsi Johnny Quik Classic at Beiden Field in Fresno.
The loss, UCSB's third in as many games at the tourney, drops the Gauchos to 11-12 on the season. The Bulldogs win their third game of the Classic and are also now 11-12 on the season.
Gaucho starter James Dayley (1-2) takes the loss, getting shelled for seven runs in two and one-third innings of work. Matt Moran pitched the final five and two-thirds innings for UCSB giving up three runs while striking out two.
Zach Minor (3-2) gets the win for Fresno State going eight and one-thirds innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out three in the process.
The Gauchos offense sputtered, having only three hits through the first six innings. UCSB ended up with seven hits overall. Dave Licht led the way, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Casey McGehee and Ben Fritz homered for the Bulldogs.
The Gauchos return to action tommorrow, Thursday March 15 against Pacific. First pitch is tentatively scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
