Box Score

Long Beach, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara (13-7) topped host Long Beach State (12-8) 8-6 in the second game of a two-game non-conference set Sunday.

Down 3-1 in the fifth, UCSB scored five runs, capped by a three-run Ryan Spilborghs double. The Gauchos took a 6-3 lead into the sixth, when Long Beach State came back with three runs of their own, one earned, to tie the game at six. However, two Gaucho runs in the eighth were enough, as Jamie Gonzales came on in relief of starter Rylie Ogle to hold the Dirtbags scoreless.

Ogle (5-1), pitching against his old team, allowed six runs, two earned, on seven hits in seven innings to earn the win. Gonzales pitched the eighth and ninth, holding the hosts to one hit and one base on balls, and notched his third save of the season.

Jared Schumaker led the Gauchos with three hits, one RBI and two runs, while Spilborghs recorded his second multi-hit, three-RBI game of the weekend.

The Gauchos will take this week off for final exams, before playing a doubleheader next Saturday at home vs. Dartmouth.
