Box Score

Santa Barbara, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara (15-7) buried visiting Dartmouth (3-7) 12-6 in Game 1 and came back from a 5-1 deficit to eke out an 8-7 triumph in Game 2 Saturday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

The Gauchos jumped on the Big Green early in the opener, scoring three runs in their half of the first and four more in the second to cruise to victory. Dave Molidor and Tyler Von Schell each homered for UCSB, while Dartmouth added three long balls of its own, two coming off the bat of left fielder Scott Shirrell.

Molidor finished Game 1 with three hits, four RBI and two runs. Jared Schumaker also posted three hits, and added a pair of RBI and three runs from the leadoff spot.

Gaucho starter Jim Bullard got the win, his fourth of the season, holding Dartmouth to five runs on 11 hits over seven innings. Bullard also struck out a career-high ten batters. He is the last UCSB pitcher to fan ten men in one game since Troy Kinto did it in 1999.

In Game 2, it took a seven-run fifth inning for UCSB to gain the lead, coming back from a 5-1 disadvantage. The scoring in the inning was capped by Von Schell's second homer of the day and team-leading ninth big fly of the season, a three-run shot off the left field foul pole.

UCSB's freshman starter Matt Vasquez was chased in the fifth inning after allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out six. Russell Wirth then came on to pitch to one man before Matt Moran shut down the Big Green for one and one third innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two. Jamie Gonzales came on to pitch the ninth and earn his fourth save of the year.

UCSB will leave tomorrow morning for the University of Hawaii tournament, where it will play eight games in seven days.
