Graham Leads UCSB to Eighth Straight Win With Complete Game Shutout

Freshman right-hander Andy Graham delivered the most dominating performance from a Gaucho pitcher this season as he tossed a complete game shutout and helped UCSB extend its longest winning streak since 1990. Senior Taylor Vogt also launched his sixth and seventh home runs of the year as the Gauchos won their eighth consecutive game with an 11-0 victory over Sacramento State.

Graham's (2-1) pitching performance marks the first complete game for a Gaucho hurler in 2004 and the second team shutout. He allowed just six hits and struck out five as

UCSB improves to 19-10 with the win as the Hornets fall to 19-18.

The Gauchos tied a season high by going deep four times in the game. Vogt's two shots coupled with solo home runs from junior Chris Malec and freshman Chris Valaika accounted for over half of the Gauchos' run production.

UC Santa Barbara took an early 4-0 lead after scoring a run in the second and three runs in the third. In the second, Valaika drove in Matt Wilkerson from third with an RBI single to left-center field. In the third, Vogt hit a three-run home run over the left-field wall. The Gauchos added another run in the sixth when Malec led off the inning with his shot to right field.

UCSB increased its lead to 11-0 in the seventh after scoring six runs on six hits.

Offensively for the Gauchos, Vogt finished 2-for-4 with a season high five RBI including his sixth roundtripper of the year. Valaika went 4-for-5 with three RBI.

Warren Rosebrock (4-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs on four hits while walking none and striking out three batters in six innings.

Craig Johnson was the only Hornet to record multiple hits on the afternoon while raising his batting average to .331. Junior Brett Flowers had his 11 game-hitting streak snapped after finishing 0-for-3 in the contest.

Sacramento State and UC Santa Barbara will conclude its series on Sunday, April 4, at 1 p.m.
