Baseball Bats Silent In 3-2 Loss To UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The Gaucho bats have yet to wake up against UC Irvine.

The UCSB baseball team could only muster up three base hits and spoiled another solid pitching effort in as many days by a Gaucho starter, falling 3-2 to the Anteaters, Saturday evening at Anteater Ballpark.

Starter Sean Thompson (Redondo Beach, Calif.) takes the loss for the Gauchos, who fall to 14-19 overall and 1-4 in Big West play. Thompson went six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and falls to 2-1 on the season.

Irvine starter Brett Smith went seven innings giving up two runs on two hits while striking out eight to help the Anteaters improve to 21-15 overall and 4-1 in Big West play.

Josh McCanne hit a triple for the Gauchos.

UCSB and UC Irvine wrap up the series tommorrow, at 1:00 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark in Irvine.
