SANTA BARABARA, Calif. - Junior left fielder C.J. Cook went 1-for-3 with a home run (1), three RBI and one run scored and freshman third baseman Matt Aidem went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored as the UC Santa Barbara baseball team (19-21, 1-4) lost to Cal Poly (26-14, 7-1), 15-6, in a non-conference match-up on Saturday afternoon at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

Cal Poly jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead as Drew Gillmore, Brent Walker, Brandon Roberts and Jimmy Van Ostrand tallied a RBI.

The Mustangs would then break open the game, extending their lead to 13-0 by the top of the sixth inning.

The Gauchos would not be shutout for long, as they posted six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cook would begin the scoring with a three-run home run (1) that sailed over the right field fence. Santa Barbara then loaded the base and put it's fourth run across as freshman Alden Carrithers drew a free pass. Aidem then brought the Gauchos within sevens runs with his two-RBI single to left field.

Cal Poly would add two more insurance runs as left fielder Matt Cooper hit a two-run home run (7) in the top of the ninth inning.

Sophomore starting pitcher Andy Graham (4-4) picked-up the loss as he hurled 3.0 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs (four earned).

Relief pitchers Brian Tracy, Andrew Schoneberger, Justin Segal, Nate Holguin and Loren Fraser all made appearances out of the Gaucho bullpen.

Cal Poly starter Jimmy Schull (5-5) earned the victory as he allowed six hits and six earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. Reliever Casey Fien was credited with his first career save as he tossed 3.2 effective innings of relief.

The Gauchos and the Mustangs complete the Big West Conference series tomorrow at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The first pitch is slated for 1:00 pm.
