USC took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Matt Cusick led off the game with his first home run of the season, a crush job to right field. The Trojans added four more runs in the second frame as the first five batters to come to the plate reached base. A single by Darren Gemoll drove in a pair and Cusick followed with a run-scoring double. A groundout by Grant Green plated another run, giving the Trojans a 5-0 lead.
UCSB got on the board in the bottom of the third as designated hitter Steve Domecus drove a ball just over the left field fence for his third home run of the season.
The Trojans added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to account for the 8-1 final score.
USC starting pitcher Anthony Vasquez threw six effective innings to improve to 4-6 on the year. He surrendered the one run on three hits while walking three and striking out four Gauchos.

In two innings of work, Aspegren gave up five runs on six hits and struck out a pair of Trojan batters. Relievers Steve Morlock and Justin Segal combined for two scoreless innings and gave up one hit apiece over the eighth and ninth. Segal struck out two in the ninth inning.
Four different Gauchos had hits including Blauer, who doubled to right center in the sixth inning. He now owns the longest active hit streak on the team as Chris Fox, who entered the contest with a 22-game streak, went 0-for-4. Mario Lewis and Shane Carlson, along with Blauer and Domecus, also had hits in the game.
Cusick went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI as five Trojans had multiple hits. USC, which left 12 runners on base, had four doubles.
