Baseball Ends Season With 8-3 Loss To Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara concluded their season with a seven hit-12 strikeout performance, in an 8-3 loss to Cal Poly (30-29-1, 15-9 Big West), in Big West Conference action, Sunday afternoon at Baggett Field.

With the loss, the Gauchos conclude their season with a 22-33 overall and 8-16 Big West Conference record.

Mustang starter Kevin Corriea threw a complete game seven-hitter, striking out a career high 12 batters, as he improved to 11-5 on the season. Cal Poly designated hitter Bryan Gant went 2-for-4 in the game to end the season with a .403 batting average.

Blair Havens (Los Alamitos, Calif.) and Chris Malec (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) scored in the first inning to give the Gauchos a 2-0 lead.

However, UCSB would not score another run till the eighth inning while Cal Poly would score eight runs in six innings off of Gaucho starter Matt Vasquez (Santa Barbara, Calif.), who falls to 5-10 on the season. Seniors Rob More (Torrance, Calif.) and Matt Moran (Chico, Calif.) pitched their final games as Gauchos, throwing shutout ball for the final two innings.

Havens was the only Gaucho to get two hits, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.

Seniors Andy Campanella (Toluca Lake, Calif.), R.J. Smith (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Dave Licht (Huntington Beach, Calif.) also played their last games as Gauchos.
