Jan. 23, 2003
Santa Barbara, Calif. - This Saturday the Gauchos will host their annual Alumni Baseball Game at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The event will include an Old Timers game, home run hitting contest, traditional Alumni Game, a tri-tip barbecue and a UCSB men's basketball game against Cal Poly later that evening.
What Happened Last Year?
Last season the 2002 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos defeated a talented alumni team, 9-4. The alumni took a one run advantage after scoring three runs in the fourth inning, but it would be their only lead of the game. The Gauchos answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own and never looked back. UCSB returns most of their key players from last years contest, including third baseman Nate Sutton who went three-for-three, and pitchers Eric Posthumus and Alex McRobbie who combined for 10 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Gaucho Alumni Honored
The 2003 season marks the 20-year anniversary of the 1983 Southern California Baseball Association Championship team. The 1983 team won 44 games, a team record at the time, and came within one game of the College World Series before losing to the eventual National Champion, Stanford. This prestigious team will be honored at the annual Alumni Game on Saturday.
