Gauchos Stop the Streak at Two by Defeating Alumni 12-2

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - With a strong pitching performance by sophomore Brian Tracy, a key hit by sophomore Chris Valaika and a homerun by senior Chris Malec, the UC Santa Barbara baseball team easily defeated an Alumni team composed of numerous minor leaguers 12-2. Starting pitcher Brian Tracy had a solid day on the mound by hurling three innings of shutout ball. Shortstop Chris Valaika got the ball rolling in the first inning with his two run single off of White Sox minor leaguer Jim Bullard. Second baseman Chris Malec helped continue the scoring with a solo blast in the fourth inning. The Gauchos tallied 12 runs off 9 hits and held the alums to two runs off three hits.

The Gauchos begin the 2005 season this Friday, Feb. 4 at home against Pepperdine. UCSB then travels down to Malibu, Calif. on Saturday and returns home Sunday, Feb. 6 to complete its opening series with the Waves.
