SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior right-handed pitcher Jesse Meaux was honored by Baseball America by being named one of the best players in the country.
Meaux was tabbed as one of the best 50 seniors in collegiate baseball as the publication listed its top 50 players by class on Wednesday. Meaux, who hails from Glendale, Calif., returned for his senior season at UCSB after being drafted last June by Philadelphia.
The 6-foot-4 righty is projected as the Gauchos' Friday starting pitcher after leading the team in innings pitched and wins in 2010. He was honored as an All-Big West Honorable Mention pick last season.
"We are all excited and grateful that Jesse decided to come back for his senior year," UCSB head coach Bob Brontsema said. "We are looking forward to him heading the staff and leading the team into the postseason."
Meaux was one of just four seniors from the Big West to be recognized by Baseball America.
The Gauchos open the season on Friday, Feb. 18 with a home series vs. LaSalle.
