Gauchos Look to Halt Slide with One Game Match-Up Against Cal Poly

Senior third baseman David Figoni and hot swinging designated hitter Matt Aidem lead the 7-6 UC Santa Barbara baseball team up against Cal Poly for a one game non-conference match-up on Tuesday, March 1 at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. Figoni, the current team leader in hits (19), home runs (2) and total bases (27) is riding an eight-game hitting streak in to Tuesday's ball game against the Mustangs. Aidem, UCSB's hottest hitter, has a team high .500 batting average (10-for-20) and has a slugging percentage of .700 The Gauchos have dropped their last four ball games and are looking for sophomore right-hander Brian Tracy (1-1, 3.00) to stop the slide. Tracy will probably make his second start of the season on Tuesday.
Entering Tuesday's match-up, Cal Poly holds a 10-8 record, losing two of their past three games to Santa Clara this past weekend. Left fielder Matt Cooper leads the Mustangs with a .328 average (19-for-58), six doubles and three home runs. First baseman Bret Berglund has a team leading 22 hits and 17 RBI. Tuesday's probable starter Evan Reed is 0-0 with at 9.00 ERA this season. He has made only one appearance for the Mustangs this season, giving up one earned run on one hit, walking one and striking out two in 1.0 inning of work.
Tuesday's game is slated for at 2:00 pm start and can be heard on the radio at AM 1340 KIST. After the game, the Gauchos will head up to Seattle this weekend to face Washington in a three-game series.
