Baseball Hopes To Beat Rain and Opponents

March 6, 2000

A Week In Review

The Gauchos hosted Loyola Marymount in a makeup game cancelled earlier this season because of rain. 20th ranked LMU defeated the Gauchos 11-9. Thursday, the Gauchos played at Westmont and defeated the Warriors, 16-0 in their first shutout of the season. This past weekend, the Gauchos had no games scheduled.

Bullard Strong In First Start As A Gaucho

Redshirt freshman Jim Bullard took to the mound on Thursday at Westmont for his first start in a Gaucho uniform. He went seven strong innings of six hit ball while striking out six batters. Bullard did not allow a walk, but did hit his first batter. Bullard earned his first win at the college level.

Molidor Still Leading The Offensive Attack

Third baseman, Dave Moldidor is one of the reasons that the Gauchos are doing well offensively. He's batting .368, with a team leading 21 hits, three home runs, 21 RBI and a .649 slugging percentage.

Peshke Back To Old Form

Chad Peshke was a little worried early in the season when his batting average was below the Mendoza Line. Now he has nothing to be worried about. Peshke is currently batting .333, fourth on the team. He has a .474 slugging percentage and a .435 on base percentage (also fourth on the team). In the last eight games, Peshke is batting .452, 14-for-31, five of those hits for doubles, and has gotten a hit in all but one game.

Kinto Sidelined By Ankle Sprain

Senior left handed pitcher Troy Kinto may be out of action for the rest of the week due to a sprained ankle that he suffered last week. Kinto was a weekend starter with a 2.30 ERA in 15.2 innings and a 1-1 record.

The Week Ahead

The Gauchos have been beaten by the rain one too many times. The weather has proved too powerful once again in the early week. They were rained out today in a scheduled game against Cal Lutheran. No makeup date has been announced. Tomorrow, the Gauchos hope to host Pac 10 power, USC at 2:00 pm. Of course, this game is weather permitting. This weekend, the Gauchos will travel to Arizona to battle the Wildcats with Friday's game slated for 7:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday's games scheduled for 1:00 pm.
