Baseball's Bannon Named Big West Player Of The Week

March 6, 2001

UC Santa Barbara senior shortstop Jeff Bannon is the Big West Player of the Week, the conference announced today. The Camarillo, California native is in his fourth season at UCSB, his third as a full-time starter.

Bannon hit .417 (5-for-12) in three Gaucho wins last week, clubbing three doubles and a home run while chalking up seven RBI and scoring five runs. He went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in UCSB's 15-4 romp at Loyola Marymount. In the Gauchos' doubleheader sweep of Temple, he combined to go 3-for-7 with three two-baggers and four RBI. Bannon leads the Big West with a .469 average and 10 doubles.

Last week, senior lefthander Rylie Ogle was named Big West Pitcher of the Week for his performance at Loyola Marymount two weekends ago.

Barring poor weather, UCSB will play a three-game series at Cal this weekend. The Gauchos are currently atop the Big West standings at 8-4 overall.
