UCSB Hosts USC on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The UC Santa Barbara baseball team, fresh off a victory over Long Beach State, will host USC on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

The Gauchos (17-17 overall) snapped a five-game losing streak on Sunday with a 4-1 win over the 49ers. USC enters Tuesday at 17-22 overall after losing two of three to No. 18 Oregon.

Jesse Meaux pitched Santa Barbara past the 49ers on Sunday, as he went eight solid innings while allowing just one run and seven hits. Meaux, who is 6-2 with a 4.24 ERA will be one of the guests on Tuesday's "Talk'n Gauchos," UCSB Athletics' weekly radio show. The show airs live from State and A Bar & Grill downtown from 6-7 p.m. on AM 1490 and streamed live and archived online and fans can hear it by clicking here.

Right-hander Greg Davis is expected to start for the Gauchos. The Hungtington Beach, Calif. native is 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA. Davis started last Tuesday's game at USC and pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out six.

Offensively, the Gauchos are led by senior shortstop Matt Valaika, who is hitting .317 with a team-high 27 RBI. His 25 runs scored are second on the team.

Junior first baseman Trevor Whyte is also hitting .317 - which is tied with Valaika for best among regulars - while leadoff batter Gunnar Terhune is hitting .297 with a team-high 27 runs scored.

The Gauchos had their four-game winning streak vs. USC snapped last Tuesday in a 9-8 defeat that saw the Trojans rally to score four runs in the ninth for the win.

USC is paced offensively by Ricky Oropesa, who is batting .338 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI.

UCSB hosts UC Riverside this weekend beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. The game is part of UCSB Athletics' Faculty Free Friday which allows all UCSB faculty and staff free admission to athletic events by showing their ID.

Saturday's and Sunday's games both begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live in AM 1490 and streaming live online at UCSBgauchos.com.
