UCSB Offering Great Weekend Promotions at Baseball and Softball

May 1, 2009

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Beginning Friday, May 8, the UCSB Athletics Department is offering fans great ticket and promotional deals at baseball and softball games.

Called "Diamond Days," fans can purchase a ticket to either softball or baseball games on Friday and Saturday and the ticket will also give you access to both Campus Diamond and Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The softball team hosts Cal State Fullerton in a doubleheader next Friday beginning at noon and a Saturday game at 2 p.m., while the baseball team hosts Long Beach State for a three-game series beginning Friday at 2 p.m. and with Saturday and Sunday games at 1 p.m.

Friday is Diabetes Awareness Day as UCSB honors its research team that developed the first computer model for an artificial pancreas, which has significant implications for diabetes patients. This strikes particularly close to home since the Gauchos' own catcher, Doug Hansen, has Type 1 diabetes. Five year-old Kyle DeSchryver, a T-Ball player from Arroyo Grande who also has Type 1 diabetes, will throw out the first pitch and be honored before the game with Hansen as well as the UCSB research team.

Saturday it will be the "Beat The Beach, Hit The Beach" event with the first 100 paid fans to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium receiving a free UCSB beach towel. The softball team pays homage to its seniors on Saturday before the 2 p.m. first pitch vs. the Titans with a Senior Day ceremony.

The celebration continues Sunday on Mother's Day as UCSB offers free admission and flowers, courtesy of Knapp Nursery, to all moms in attendance. Additionally, the first 50 students to arrive at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium will be given coupons for free burritos from Chipotle.

Tickets are available by calling (805) 893-UCSB, by coming to the Ticket Office located inside the Intercollegiate Athletics building on campus or by clicking here.
