UCSB Announces High School Baseball Camps

May 4, 2006

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara baseball coaching staff has announced the dates for both the 2nd Annual Hitting/Pitching Camp and the 2nd Annual High School All-Star Camp scheduled for later this summer. The Hitting/Pitching camp is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 21st following the completion of the UCSB and UC Davis baseball game. The All-Start Prospects Camp, which offers a unique baseball opportunity to high school players who are interested in playing in college at the Division I level, will be held July 9-13 on the UCSB campus.

The Hitting/Pitching Camp is offered for 2007 and 2008 high school players who are looking to play at the next level. All campers will receive free admission into Sunday's Gaucho game. The camp will feature live batting practice, small group instruction on hitting mechanics and how to create a successful mental approach to hitting. Also, pitchers will learn the Gaucho Throwing Program, a constructive bullpen routine and a successful mental approach to pitching. The duration of the camp will be approximately two hours.

Offering a one to eight coach/player ratio, the All-Start Prospects Camp will give players the opportunity to participate in games and receive three hours of individual instruction each day. This camp will feature the entire Gaucho coaching staff, professional scouts, area coaches and UCSB's strength and conditioning coach. Each participant will receive equal attention and playing time during the week of instruction and also receive a written evaluation from a member of UCSB's coaching staff. Campers will receive instruction on all aspects of the game with daily competition, education on strength and conditioning, the process of recruiting, the mental side of baseball and education regarding professional baseball. The camp offers both an overnight and commuter experience. Each day will begin at 8 am and finish at 7 pm. The camp will carry 80 players maximum with 20 players per team.

In the past year the Gaucho camps have provided a tremendous experience and opportunity for all baseball enthusiasts. There are currently 7 former campers on the UCSB baseball roster.
