Ryan Spilborghs Drafted In Seventh Round Of The Major League Baseball Draft

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara junior outfielder Ryan Spilborghs was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the seventh round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft. The two-time All-Big West Conference outfielder was the 201st player selected.

Spilborghs, a hometown product out of Santa Barbara High School, batted .338 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI, garnering All-Big West honors for the second consecutive year. He also led the Gauchos with 57 runs scored, five triples and 38 walks.

As a sophomore Spilborghs batted .375, including a .448 clip in Big West games. In addition, he helped UCSB to an NCAA Tournament berth with 58 runs scored and 40 RBI, earning second team ABCA All-West Region honors. Spilborghs also set two school records with a 35-game hitting streak and 13 sacrifice bunts in 2001.
