Gauchos Enjoy Success in Summer Baseball

July 7, 2005

Santa Barbara, CALIF. - After helping the Gauchos to finish last season at 26-30, 8-13 in the Big West Conference, senior returnees Matt Emerick and Andrew Schoneberger elected to play summer ball for the Santa Maria Indians. Emerick, an everyday player in the Gaucho lineup last year, and Schoneberger, a left-handed reliever, have been productive for the Indians. Senior first baseman Bill Rowe is playing with the Aloha Knights, the defending NBC World Series Champions, and he is batting .295 and has played error-free first base. Junior hurlers Brian Tracy and Justin Segal managed to stay together this summer by both finding action on the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate League's Rockville Express. Fellow junior pitcher Andy Graham currently finds work on the mound for the Orleans Cardinals in the Cape Cod League.

Sophomore Alden Carrithers stayed in Santa Barbara to hone his skills, finding time at second base for the Santa Barbara Foresters. In addition, Mario Lewis, a future Gaucho from SBCC, has been a regular starter in the Forester outfield this summer. Jeff Braun is another future Gaucho who has excelled in summer ball. The left-handed pitcher out of Pierce College currently sports the lowest ERA (0.77) on the Alaskan League's Anchorage Glacier Pilots' pitching staff.
