SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Collegiate Baseball Magazine has announced their top recruiting classes of 2007 with UC Santa Barbara's class of fourteen incoming recruits earning a spot among the Top 50 programs in the country.
The Gaucho class, comprised of six freshman and eight junior college transfers, was rated 46th in the country and 4th in the Big West Conference. Louisiana State earned the number one spot in the rankings for the second time in the last four years.
Most noteworthy about the Gaucho recruiting class is its inclusion of four players whose fathers all served time on a Major League Roster. Right-handed pitcher Jason Roenicke, a transfer from Cuesta Community College and a 28th round draft choice of the Cincinnati Reds, is the son of former MLB player Gary Roenicke. Outfielder Lance Roenicke, cousin of Jason, is an incoming freshman from Chino Hills, Calif., and the son of former MLB player and current bench coach of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Ron Roenicke.
Rounding out the list of sons of former Major League fathers is infielder Bryce Lefebvre, a transfer from Scottsdale Community College and the son of former MLB player and manager Jim Lefebvre, and right-handed pitcher Zack Samuels, a transfer from De Anza Community College, who is the son of former MLB player Roger Samuels.
