Lucius Davis Becomes Newest 'Legend of the 'Dome' Saturday as Gauchos Host Pacific

Lucius Davis

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –Lucius Davis, a staple of the great UC Santa Barbara teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s, will be introduced as the fifth men's basketball Legend of the 'Dome on Saturday, Feb. 9 when the Gauchos host Pacific at 7:00 p.m. in the Thunderdome.

Davis came to UCSB in 1988 and immediately started contributing.  In 1988-89, he came off the bench for a team that opened the year with a school-record winning-streak of 11 straight games and ended the season with a berth in the National Invitation Tournament.  As a sophomore, Davis was selected as the Big West Conference's Sixth Man of the Year after helping the Gauchos to another 21-win season, an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament and a first round win over the University of Houston.

In 1990-91, the San Jose, Calif., native became UCSB's leading scorer at 16.0 points per game and was chosen All-Big West.  In his senior campaign, 1991-92, he guided the Gauchos to a 20-win season and another spot in the NIT.  That year, Davis averaged 22.2 points per game, the second highest total in school history, and was selected Big West Player of the Year, First Team All-Big West, All-District, All-Region and Honorable Mention All-American.

A member of the UCSB Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, Davis joins Brian Shaw, Carrick DeHart, Eric McArthur and head coach Jerry Pimm as men's basketball team members whose banners adorn the walls of the legendary Thunderdome.  Women's basketball (Barb Beainy, Head Coach Mark French, Kristen Mann and Erin Alexander) and women's volleyball (Roberta Gehlke, Head Coach Kathy Gregory and Judy Bellomo) are also saluted.

The Legend of the 'Dome program was implemented in 2009 to immortalize the Gaucho athletes that consistently turned in legendary performances inside of a legendary building.

There will be a pre-game reception for Davis in the UCSB Intercollegiate Athletics Building's Phil Womble Hall of Champions prior to the game on Saturday.  For more information, please contact Christina Baglas at Christina.Baglas@athletics.ucsb.edu or by calling 805-893-5372.
