The Gaucho Record
UCSB enters its Saturday afternoon game against Cal State Fullerton with an overall record of 17-7 and a Big West record of 8-3. The Gauchos edged UC Riverside on Thursday night by a score of 55-54 and have now won five of their last six and eight of 10. The game against the Titans will be the penultimate home game of the season for Santa Barbara. Next weekend the Gauchos will travel to UC Irvine on Feb. 27 and UC Davis on Mar. 1.

ESPN2, ESPNU Opts To Air Pair Of Gauchos Games
As part of its agreement with the Big West Conference, ESPN selects its late-season games from among any on the schedule and the network has opted for a pair of UCSB contests as its "Wild Card" games this year. The Gauchos' Saturday, Mar. 1 game at UC Davis, scheduled for 7:00 p.m., has been moved to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate ESPN2 and their Mar. 6 home game against Hawaii, scheduled for 7:00 p.m., has been moved to 6:00 p.m. and will air on ESPNU. The two additions to the television schedule will bring to 10 the number of appearances that UCSB has made on regional or national networks this season. The Gauchos will also add to that total with the Big West Tournament.

UCSB Now 13th In Mid-Major Poll
After moving into the No. 10 spot in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 last week, the Gauchos have dropped to No. 13 after their split of two games last week. When they did get to No. 10, it was the program's highest ranking in the poll since it was No. 6 in December of 2007. UCSB is joined in the poll by fellow Big West Conference member UC Irvine, which is ranked 21st. Wichita State, which is ranked No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, is ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Major Top-25. Gonzaga is No. 2.

The Opponent
The Gauchos and Cal State Fullerton have played 77 times with Santa Barbara holding a 41-36 edge. The Titans won the first meeting between the schools this season, posting a narrow 74-72 decision on Jan. 25 at Titan Gym.  Last season, each team won on its home court with UCSB winning 66-50 at the Thunderdome.

The Gauchos At Home
UCSB is 8-3 at the Thunderdome this season. The Gauchos defeated UC Riverside on Thursday night and have now won four of their last five at home. Santa Barbara's seven other home wins this season have come against UC Irvine, UC Davis, Long Beach State, Cal, South Dakota State, Hawaii-Pacific and The Master's College. The other two home defeats came at the hands of Cal Poly and Utah State. UCSB is 310-152 all-time at the Thunderdome.

Alan Williams Stakes Claim To National Rebounding Lead
Alan Williams has been on a rebounding role lately. In the last five games, he has collected 77 boards, an average of 15.4 per game to improve his season average from 10.6 per game to 11.7 per game. Williams now leads the nation in rebounding with a tiny edge over Chad Posthumus of Morehead State. The only other Gaucho player ever to rank among the top-five in rebounding average at the NCAA Division I level was Eric McArthur who finished third in 1990 at 13.0 per game

Williams Continues To Climb Scoring List
Alan Williams tallied 19 points in UCSB's win over UC Riverside and now has 1,183 in his career, the 19th most in school history. He needs just two more to pass James Powell (1,184) and claim 18th-place, 15 to pass John Tschogl (1,197) and move into 17th-place, and 17 to surpass Dave Brown for 16th all-time.

Williams Continues To Scale Rebound List Too
Alan Williams recently became the sixth UCSB player to eclipse 700 career rebounds and he hasn't stopped there. Williams had 15 rebounds in the Gauchos' win over UC Riverside and now has 752, the fifth most in school history. He has 15 or more rebounds in four of the last five games and needs 18 to move past Richard Anderson and into fourth all-time. When Williams had 27 points and 20 rebounds on Feb. 1 vs. UC Davis, he became the first Gaucho since Jan. 29, 1990 to post a 20/20 game.

Rebounding Streak Continues
The Gauchos outrebounded UC Riverside by a 37-32 margin and it was the seventh straight opponent that they have outrebounded. While UCSB is third in the Big West in overall rebounding margin, it leads the way in rebounding margin in conference games at +5.4, more than a rebound better than Hawaii, which is second at +4.3.

UCSB Wins Despite Shooting Woes
The Gauchos shot a season-low 31.4% in their win over UC Riverside on Thursday. They made just 16 field goals in 51 attempts. UCSB's previous season-low in field goal percentage was 35.8% on Dec. 21 against Western Illinois. In fact, before the Gauchos shot 36.9% in their Feb. 15 game against Cal State Northridge, the Western Illinois game represented the last time they made below 40.0% in a game, a streak of 11 straight. In the last two games, Santa Barbara has made just 40-of-116 field goal attempts, 34.5%.

Free At Last
In their previous game, a home loss to Cal State Northridge, the Gauchos did themselves no favors at the free throw line. They did hit 74.2%, but missed several down the stretch before losing in overtime. That was not the case on Thursday against UC Riverside. While they shot a season-low from the field, UCSB made 82.6% from the free throw line and hit all four in the final two minutes. The two biggest were by Zalmico Harmon who was intentionally fouled with 6.3 second left and a two-point lead. He made both and the rest was academic.

Near Perfect Harmony
Zalmico Harmon played 35 minutes in Thursday's win over UC Riverside and did not commit a turnover. In his last eight games, a span of 267 minutes, Harmon has three turnovers and 39 assists, a 13-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. His recent tremendous run has improved his season ratio to 4.17-to-1, first in the Big West Conference and third in the nation. For the season, Harmon is averaging a turnover every 25.9 minutes and in the last eight games he is commiting one turnover every 89 minutes. Finally, he has had one or fewer turnover in 15 of 24 games.

A Magic Number
UCSB has allowed fewer than 70 points 16 times in the first 24 games of the 2013-14 season, going 16-0 in the process. The Gauchos have held eight of their last 10 opponents under the 70-point barrier.

A Three-Point Respite
The Gauchos attempted 13 three-pointers against UC Riverside on Thursday night, the fewest they have attempted all season and it seems as though it was no accident that they won. UCSB has attempted 20 or fewer three-pointers 17 times this season and has gone 15-2 in those games. The only exceptions to the rule have come in losses to Utah State on Nov. 16 and Cal Poly on Jan. 11. The Gauchos have attempted more than 20 three-point shots seven times and have a record of 2-5 in those games. The only wins in those seven games came over The Master's College and Hawaii.
