SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – David Miller, who spent the 2016-17 season as the Director of Player Development at the University of Alabama, has been named UC Santa Barbara's Director of Basketball Operations, Head Coach Joe Pasternack announced Thursday.
"David Miller is a rising star in the coaching profession," Pasternack said. "His basketball background, passion, and organizational skills will be a huge asset to UC Santa Barbara Basketball.
Miller, a native of Manhattan Beach, Calif., spent two years in Tuscaloosa, the first as the program's assistant video coordinator before being promoted after the 2015-16 season.
Prior to his two years at Alabama, Miller spent five seasons at the University of Arizona. From 2010-13 he was a student-manager and from 2013-15 he was a graduate manager. His role in the program included aiding the coaching staff in individual and team workouts as well as various operational and video duties.
In his five seasons in Tucson, Miller was part of a Wildcat program that earned three Pac-12 championships and four NCAA Tournament berths, including Elite Eight appearances and one Sweet Sixteen showing.
Miller played two seasons at El Camino College before transferring to Arizona where he earned his bachelor's degree in English and his master's degree in education. He comes from a basketball background as his father, David, spent time as an assistant coach at Arizona, Texas, USC, Eastern Kentucky and with the NBA's New Orleans Hornets.
Miller becomes the second member of Pasternack's staff. On Tuesday, Louis Reynaud was named Assistant Coach.
