SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Wednesday night's men's basketball game between UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly will not only be the Big West Conference opener for the Gauchos, it will also mark the debut of a new, state-of-the art video board at the Thunderdome.

The board will be located high on the wall at the southwest end of the arena and will measure 50'6" x 15'4". It is the equivalent of a 4k Ultra High Definition television, meaning that each LED on the board is spaced four millimeters apart.

"We believe this is the first 4k board on the West Coast," said UCSB Director of Athletics John McCutcheon. "It is a real game-changer for us and will tremendously improve the fan experience at the Thunderdome. We will also have more opportunities to highlight the achievements of our student-athletes, so we are very excited about this addition on many levels."

The new video board was made possible by a small group of donors led by alumnus Mike Stewart '91 and wife, Melissa, The Gretler Foundation and the Corwin Family. The board will be named in honor of the Stewart Family in recognition of their generous lead gift to the project.

"This will have a tremendous impact on our program," said Gaucho head coach Joe Pasternack. "We are incredibly grateful to the donors who made it possible, especially the Stewart Family for stepping up to lead the way."

"We are extremely excited for the new video board to be up and running and thank everyone who had a part in making it happen," said UCSB women's volleyball coach Nicole Lantagne Welch. "It will certainly make not only our matches but every event in the Thunderdome that much more exciting and we know all the fans will enjoy the new experiences and environment it will create."

The video board, which was also made possible by the Events Center Governance Board, will also be utilized for women's basketball, women's volleyball and other university events held in the Thunderdome.

UCSB and the Mustangs will open league play at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9 in the Thunderdome. The 11-3 Gauchos are a perfect 7-0 at the Thunderdome in 2018-19. In addition to the game against Cal Poly, they will host UC Riverside on Saturday, Jan. 12 in another 7:00 p.m. game. Tickets for both games are available from the Intercollegiate Athletics Ticket Office in the ICA Building on campus, by calling 805-893-UCSB or online by going here.
