| Position: | Assistant Coach |
Former UCSB player Matt Stock enters his eighth season as an
assistant coach in the program. He spent the seven years before
that (1997-04) as the Gauchos' Director of Basketball
Operations.
Stock's has seen his responsibilities expand greatly in his years
as a Gaucho coach. They now include recruiting, on-court coaching,
in-season film breakdown and development of UCSB players, scouting
of opponents, game and practice scheduling, summer, fall, and
spring basketball camps and clinics.
A native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Stock played at UCSB from 1996-98.
While he played both guard positions, he earned a reputation as an
outstanding three-point shooter, and the 43.3% he shot from beyond
the three-point stripe in 1996-97 is still among the best marks in
school history. Including his year as a redshirt player at UCSB,
1995-96, he has been a part of the program longer than any other
staff member, 13 years going on 14.
Stock transferred to Santa Barbara from Fresno State, where he
played one season for Gary Colson, a former Associate Athletics
Director at UCSB. In addition, he played a year at Ricks Junior
College. He earned his bachelor's in law and society from UCSB,
with a minor in athletic coaching, and he completed his master's
degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific.
Stock and his wife Lyndsi reside in Santa Barbara. They have three
sons, Justin, Brandon and Jacob.
