Gauchos Get Defensive In Win Over Idaho

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - UC Santa Barbara's zone defense held Idaho to 32.6 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers in a 59-47 victory Saturday night.

Jacoby Atako led the defensive effort with four steals while also handing out five assists.

The Gauchos (8-5, 2-2 Big West) struggled to a 23-21 lead in the first half, but broke out with 57.1 percent shooting in the second half.

Casey Cook scored 10 of his team-high 12 points after the break, making 5-of-6 shots. Cameron Goettsche added eight of his 10 after halftime.

Cook and Bryan Whitehead led UCSB's 32-30 edge on the boards by grabbing six rebounds apiece, while Goettsche added five.

Idaho (3-9, 0-3) was led by Tanoris Shepard with 12 points. His 3-pointer with 16:54 to go trimmed UCSB's lead to 29-26, but the Gauchos responded with a 17-1 run.
