Men's Basketball Closes Home Season With Big Win, 72-63 Over Pacific

Freshman guard Nick Jones scored a career-high 22 points, and Mark Hull added 16, to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 72-63 win over the University of the Pacific on Saturday in Santa Barbara.

Jones scored 11 points in each half to lead UCSB, and while the Tigers were able to tie the score at 44-44 with 13:24 remaining in the game, they were never able to take the lead. The Gauchos were able to stop every Pacific run, and by making their final 14 free throws, they were able to secure their 13th win of the year.

Once again, it was the Gauchos' big four that led the way. In addition to Jones and Hull, junior forward Mike Vukovich scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, and freshman guard Branduinn Fullove had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

UCSB shot 56.1% for the game and they limited Pacific to 38.9%. In addition, they outrebounded the Tigers, 34-31, and they made 77.4% from the free throw line. Pacific, to a certain extent, was done-in at the charity stripe, as they made just 13-of-29, 44.8%.

Hull added six rebounds and a pair of assists to his total of 16 points, and Jones had six assists and three steals in the win.

The victory was UCSB's eighth in nine games and it put the Gauchos over the .500 mark for the firs time this season at 13-12. They are also 9-5 in the Big West, good for third place. Since opening the year at 0-4, 2-7 and 5-11, UCSB has gone 13-8, 11-5 and 8-1.

UCSB will complete the regular season on the road next weekend with games at Utah State (Thursday, March 1) and at Boise State (Saturday, March 3).
