UCSB Falls To Utah State, 83-50
March 1, 2001
LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Dimitri Jorssen scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Utah State to an 83-50 victory over UC Santa Barbara Thursday night.
The senior center from Belgium scored six of the Aggies' first 12 points as part of a 12-4 run to start the game.
UCSB took its only lead, 25-23, on a 3-point shot by Nick Jones with 3:26 left in the first half.
USU had 10 turnovers in the first half and struggled to a 31-27 halftime lead. But a 19-3 run in the first six minutes of the second half, many off the points coming off of fast breaks, gave USU all the momentum it needed for its 22nd consecutive win at home. The Aggies have won 34 of their last 35 games in the Smith Spectrum.
The Aggies outscored Santa Barbara 52-23 in the second half.
The win kept USU in second place in the conference, while UCSB is wrestling with Long Beach State for third or fourth place. UC Irvine, 14-1 after a Thursday night victory, has clinched the conference championship and will enter the Big West Conference Tournament as the top seed. The tournament begins March 8 in Anaheim, Calif.
