ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Joe See scored 19 points - 14 in the second half - as UC Santa Barbara overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to beat Long Beach State 55-49 Wednesday night in the first round of the Big West Conference tournament.
The seventh seeded Gauchos (11-17) play No. 4 seed Cal State Fullerton, which had a first-round bye, Thursday night.
See, held without a field goal in the first half, went 3-for-4 from behind the 3-point line in the second half.
Jibril Hodges scored eight-straight points during an 11-1 Long Beach State run that put the sixth-seeded 49ers (10-20) up 43-31 with 12:32 to play.
UC Santa Barbara answered with an 11-0 run that featured eight points and back-to-back 3-pointers from See to pull within one, 43-42, with 10:57 left.
Hodges finished with 11 points. Louis Darby also had 11 for Long Beach State, all in the first half.
See tied the game at 45 with a pair of free throws, and made another 3-pointer to put the Gauchos up 52-46 with 4:08 to play.
Chrismen Oliver added 13 points for UC Santa Barbara.
The Gauchos had lost six of eight games to finish the regular season, including a 58-57 loss to the 49ers on Saturday.
Glenn Turner, not expected to play after injuring his back in the regular season finale, played 32 minutes for Santa Barbara and had 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The 49ers finished the first half with a 7-2 run to lead 30-25 at the break.
