Men's Basketball Opens Season With 51-42 Win Over Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Branduinn Fullove scored 19 points, including a key 3-pointer late in the game, as UC Santa Barbara beat Westmont 51-42 on Saturday.
UC Santa Barbara (1-0) led by only two at the three-minute mark, but outscored the Warriors 11-4 in the final minutes.
Fullove's 3-pointer with two seconds left on the shot clock put the Gauchos up 45-38 with 1:32 to play. He made 7-of-11 shots overall, including two 3-pointers.
Chris Clark led Westmont (1-3) with 14 points, including a runner that pulled the Warriors within five with 1:17 remaining. Adama Ndiaye countered with a breakaway dunk to seal the UCSB victory. Ndiaye finished with 8 points and 14 rebounds.
Mark Hull scored 7 of his 10 points in the final six minutes for UCSB.
The game was a defensive struggle, with the score knotted at 20-20 at halftime. Westmont made only 3-of-24 three-pointers and shot just 24.5 percent for the game. The Warriors shot 40 percent.
