Men's Basketball Falls To Weber State In First Round Of BP Top Of The World Classic, 91-82

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Stevie Morrison scored 22 points and Jermaine Boyette added 20 as Weber State rallied to beat UC Santa Barbara 91-82 Friday night in the opening round of the BP Top of the World Classic.

Weber State (1-0) trailed 74-71 with just under six minutes left but went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good. Morrison hit a 3-pointer and Boyette made three field goals in the run.

Mark Hull scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half to lead Santa Barbara (0-1). Nick Jones added 20 points and freshman Cecil Brown added 12.

Morrison was 4-of-5 from 3-point range, while Boyette went 9-of-12 from the field. As a team, the Wildcats made 59.3% from the floor overall and 56.3% from three-point territory. UCSB shot well too, making 53.7% overall and 39.1% from three-point range. The Gauchos, however, struggled from the free throw line, making just 15-of-28, 53.6%.

Santa Barbara never trailed in the first half. The Gauchos led by six with 2 minutes left in the half, but poor free-throw shooting prevented a bigger lead.

UCSB will play at 3:00 p.m. (PST) on Saturday afternoon when they take on Jacksonville State in the consolation bracket of the tourney. Jacksonville State lost to Ball State in the final game of the first round on Friday night.
