UCSB Tops LMU With All-Around Effort, 63-56

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Alex Harris scored 21 points to lead four scorers in double figures for UC Santa Barbara in a 63-56 victory Saturday night over Loyola Marymount.
Harris had just eight points at halftime but picked up the scoring pace in the second half when the Gauchos (7-1) made 10 of their first 15 shots and their first five free throws.
Harris went 6-for-13 from the field and made seven of nine free throws in 34 minutes.
Shawn Deadwiler led all scorers with a career-high 23 points for Loyola Marymount (2-6), which is now 0-3 at home.
Deadwiler made a 3-pointer with 1:03 remaining to cut the lead to 59-56 but UCSB held the Lions scoreless the rest of the way.
Deadwiler also had a career-high eight turnovers of the Lions' 24.
Chris Devine scored 13 points and led UCSB with nine rebounds. James Powell had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists and Ivan Elliott added 10 points for the Gauchos, who are off to their best start since going 8-1 to begin the 1992-93 season.
Jon Ziri had six points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals but also had five turnovers for Loyola Marymount, which shot just 39 percent.
