Men's Basketball Can't Hold Second Half Lead, Loses At BYU

PROVO, Utah (AP) - Travis Hansen scored 19 points and Brigham Young beat UC Santa Barbara 69-56 on Saturday to extend the nation's longest home-court winning streak to 40 games.

Mark Bigelow added 11 points and made consecutive 3-pointers to start a 15-4 BYU run in the second half, giving the Cougars a 10-point lead. UCSB (3-5) never pulled closer than seven as the Cougars made 13 of 15 free throws in the final 10 minutes.

Branduinn Fullove led the Gauchos with 17 points. Nick Jones added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Hansen scored 14 of his points in the second half, when he made 10-of-12 free throws. He also finished with a game-high seven rebounds and five assists.

BYU held the Gauchos to 37 percent shooting.

UCSB entered the game shooting 50 percent. Ricky Bower, Terry Nashif and Jared Jensen scored nine points for the Cougars.

BYU last dropped a game at the Marriott Center on Feb. 17, 2000, against New Mexico.
UCSB will return to action on Friday, December 27 when they travel to the Devil Classic in Tempe, Arizona. The Gauchos will open with Nebraska in the first round.
