Nunnally Named Athlete of the Week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sophomore forward James Nunnally, who helped lead the UCSB men's basketball team to three consecutive Big West Conference wins, has been named Athlete of the Week.

On Jan. 4, Nunnally recorded the first double-double of his career when he had 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 57-53 come-from-behind win at UC Riverside. The San Jose, Calif., native made 7-of-13 shots overall and 3-of-6 from three-point range in the victory over the Highlanders.

In a nationally televised game against UC Davis on Friday, Nunnally made 8-of-14 shots, including 1-of-2 from three-point range, scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Gauchos exploded in the second half for a 68-47 win over the Aggies.

On Sunday, playing against his older brother Michael, Nunnally had 20 points and six rebounds in a 68-67 win over visiting Pacific. He made 2-of-4 three-point attempts in the game against the Tigers. Nunnally also hit 8-of-10 free throws as UCSB held-off a Pacific rally.

UCSB is now 8-6 overall and in first-place in the Big West at 3-1.

Nunnally is now averaging 13.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He and the Gauchos travel to Long Beach State on Thursday, Jan. 14 to play the Big West preseason favorite 49ers in a 7:00 p.m. game.
