UCSB's Justin Joyner Finding National Fame as Old Spice Spoof Goes Viral

Jan. 11, 2011

Justin Joyner of the UC Santa Barbara men's basketball team has gained national attention this week upon the release of an Old Spice video spoof starring the senior point guard.

Joyner, who is averaging 22.8 minutes per game and is second on the team in assists, stars in a hilarious take on the recent Old Spice commercials that were a hit starring Isaiah Mustafa.

The video, which can be seen on UCSB's YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/UCSBGauchosAthletics was first picked up by ESPN.com's Diamond Leung on the ESPN College Basketball Nation blog. (See the article by clicking here.)

Then, Yahoo! Sports college basketball writer Jeff Eisenberg chatted with Joyner and posted a story featuring the video on his college hoops blag, titled The Dagger. (See the Yahoo! story by clicking here.)

Corresponding with the videos, UCSB Athletics released a blooper reel from the video shoot on Tuesday afternoon.

Joyner and the Gauchos host UC Irvine on Thursday night and UC Riverside on Saturday with both games in the Thunderdome at 7 p.m. The first 500 fans to Thursday's game will receive foam Thunderdome lightning bolts and the first 250 students to Saturday's game will get a UCSB mini-hoop set. UCSB students are always free to any UCSB athletic event.

Tickets are available by calling (805) 893-UCSB or by clicking here.
