SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara will travel to Logan, Utah on Friday, Feb. 22, to take on former Big West rival Utah State in the ESPNU O'Reilly BracketBusters, ESPN announced Monday.
The Gaucho-Aggie game will be one of 14 BracketBuster games televised on one of the ESPN networks. ESPN2 (six games), ESPNU (five games), ESPN Classic (one game) and ESPN360.com (two games) are participating in the broadcasting of the event. Station assignments will be announced on Friday, Feb. 8.
UCSB and Utah State were two of 28 schools selected from a pool of 100 teams for televised games. In addition, the match-up will be one of just two played on Friday night, with 11 being played on Saturday and one on Sunday.
The teams have played 59 times in a series that dates back to 1971. USU holds a 37-29 all-time edge, but the team's have not met since the 2004-05 season, the Aggies' last as a member of the Big West Conference before moving to the Western Athletic Conference. USU is currently in first-place in the WAC with an overall record of 15-6 and a league mark of 6-1. UCSB is 16-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big West.
The Feb. 22 game will be the Gauchos' fourth as part of the BracketBusters package, but just the second to be televised. In the first year of the event, 2002-03, UCSB hosted Detroit in a televised game.
The Gauchos will play five games prior to their meeting with Utah State, beginning Thursday, Feb. 7, when they host Cal State Fullerton in a 7:00 p.m. game at the Thunderdome.
