UCSB Men's Basketball Coach Bob Williams Receives Three-Year Contract Extension

March 18, 2002

Santa Barbara, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara has extended the contract of head basketball coach Bob Williams by three years, Athletic Director Gary Cunningham announced today.

Williams, who had three years remaining on his contract prior to the extension, is now signed through March 31, 2008.

"I am very pleased with where Bob has taken the program," Cunningham said. "We made significant strides this year and he deserves to be rewarded for the team's achievements."

This season, Williams guided the Gauchos to a 20-11 overall record, their first Big West Conference Championship ever and their first NCAA Tournament bid in 12 years. In 1998-99, he took over a program that had not produced a winning record in five seasons and had, at one point, lost a school record 16 consecutive games. Next year, Williams' Gauchos will return four of five starters. In addition, UCSB will add several key redshirts and top recruits.
