SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara men's basketball staff is now complete with the addition of Joe Nagy as Director of Basketball Operations, head coach Bob Williams announced today.
Nagy comes to UCSB with a solid coaching background. A native of the Bay Area, he was the first-ever head coach at Hercules High School in Richmond, Calif., during the 2001-02 season. In 2002-03, he was the head coach at Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek, Calif., guiding that program to its first 20-win season and a 13-1 conference record. In 2000-01, Nagy spent a season as an assistant coach at De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif. In that one year - with current Gaucho guard Joe See as one of its key players - De La Salle won a state championship. In 1998-99, he spent one season as the top assistant coach and scouting director at his alma mater, Clayton Valley High School in Concord, Calif.
"I am excited to fill the Director of Operations spot with someone who has such a varied background," Williams said. "Joe is extremely versatile with experience in coaching, business and marketing. He is a perfect fit and a great addition to our staff."
In 2003, Nagy co-founded Total Sports Management, a sports management company. He also spent one year, 2002-03, as a financial advisor at American Express Financial Advisors/Prudential Securities. He earned his BA in Communication Studies from Westmont College in 1998.
"I am thrilled and excited by the opportunity to work with Coach Williams," Nagy said. "This is a great staff and to be a part of it is a real exciting thing. I very much look forward to what I think will be an outstanding learning experience."
Nagy replaces Derrick Allen, who left to become a full-time assistant coach at San Jose State
