Allen, who started at point guard in 1998-99 and 1999-2000, Williams' first two seasons at UCSB, has spent the last two years as an assistant coach at Bakersfield City College.
"We are pleased to bring back one of our own," Williams said. "He brought so much to us when we took over the program six years ago and I'm sure that his fire and determination will be great assets to our staff."
In his two years as a Gaucho, Allen started 54 of 56 games and he earned a reputation as a hard-nosed defender and competitor. As a junior, he averaged 6.7 points, 4.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. His total of 68 steals in 1998-99 still ranks second on UCSB's all-time single-season list. In a win over UC Irvine in 1999, Allen tied the school record with eight steals. As a senior, he averaged 5.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals per outing. His two-year total of 114 steals ranks sixth on the Gauchos' all-time list, but it is the highest total ever by a two-year player.
"I am excited to go forward with my career," Allen said. "This is a great opportunity to become part of a Division I staff and the chance to work with a proven winner like Coach Williams makes it even better."
