July 22, 2002

Santa Barbara, Calif. - Joe See, a 5-foot-11 guard and the leading three-point shooter as a freshman at Oregon State last year, has signed a scholarship offer to join the UC Santa Barbara men's basketball team, head coach Bob Williams has announced.

See, who averaged 6.1 points and 1.9 assists as a true freshman last season, will redshirt the 2002-03 campaign and join the team as a sophomore in 2003-04.

"We are very pleased and excited that Joe See has made the decision to transfer to UCSB," commented Williams. "I think he is a very good fit for our program and with a season of Pac Ten experience, he should be a tremendous addition."

See hit 43 three-point baskets last year, and after missing his first 18 attempts from beyond the arc, hit 43-of-106, 40.6%. In addition to his three-point prowess, See finished third on the team with 55 assists. He was one of three Beavers to play in all 29 games, making four starts. His average of 23.1 minutes per game ranked him fifth on the team. See's best game came in a win over Southern Utah when he made 5-of-9 three-point shots, scored 16 points and handed out eight assists. In a game against Cal, he made 5-of-6 three-point shots.

See prepped at De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif., and as a senior he averaged 18 points and five assists per game, leading the Spartans to their third straight appearance in the California Division 1 State Tournament. As a junior, he averaged 16.1 points and 5.1 assists and led De La Salle to its first California Division 1 State Championships. In the title game, a 47-46 win over Fresno's Clovis West High School, See hit a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds remaining to give his team the victory.
